Familiarize Yourself with Your Spinal Discs

Spinal discs are shock-absorbing cushions that sit between the bones of the spine, and herniated discs are a common problem that can cause discomfort and weakness. If you’re dealing with back pain caused by a herniated disc in Miami, then watch this video to learn more about your spinal discs and what happens when one herniates.

Spinal discs facilitate spinal movement, provide support for the vertebrae, and have 2 primary parts. The first part, called the nucleus pulposus, is the jelly-like inner portion at the center of the disc. The second part is called the annulus fibrosus, which is the collective name for the disc’s outermost layers. Trauma or disc degeneration can cause the nucleus pulposus to herniate through the annulus fibrosus. In some cases, the herniated disc can press against a nerve root and cause pain, numbness, weakness, or tingling to radiate along the nerve’s path.
