What Happens When a Disc Herniates?

In between the bones of your spine are cushioning pieces of tissue called spinal discs. When one of these discs weakens or suffers damage, it can herniate and cause you to experience back pain and other symptoms. If you’ve been diagnosed with a herniated disc near Miami, then watch this video to learn more about this common cause of back pain.

Spinal discs have a rubbery texture and consist of a tough, outer layer and a soft, inner portion. Because of age, wear, or injury, the outer wall of a spinal disc can weaken or tear, allowing the inner part to bulge outward and resulting in a herniated disc. When you have a herniated disc, this means that a portion of it is out of place and may be pressing against a spinal nerve and causing pain and inflammation.
